So long Christmas!
Well folks, that's it. It's all over for another year. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with family and friends and you're not still trying to digest Christmas dinner!!
We had a quiet Christmas this year. I don't know about you guys but in our house there is always the annual row on Christmas morning that gets the day started nicely.....Not! Nothing like telling someone to go and *bleep* to get you in the festive spirit ha ha. All joking aside, its a time of year when emotions are high, especially if you are missing a loved one. In my experience, the different emotions individuals feel at Christmas can make it a very interesting Christmas indeed. Anyone who was missing someone at their Christmas table this year can probably relate to what I'm saying. If you know nothing of this...then I'm coming to your house next year for dinner!! hee hee
With Christmas behind us, its time to focus on New Years celebrations. What does New Years mean for you? A lot of people look to New Years, as a time to set goals for the year ahead. Others celebrate the fact that they are leaving the previous year behind them. I think I'm always doing a bit of both. I feel like we had a good year this year. Yeah, it had it's moments, but all in all, it wasn't bad. Next year we have a lot to look forward too. The biggest event being that we have a new baby on the way! After 6.5 years, I feel like I'm doing it for the first time. They say you never forget how to ride a bike but I'm not sure the same goes for labor and birth. I find myself asking a lot of questions of friends who have recently had children because I find it hard to remember. I will do a couple of blog posts on pregnancy and birthing but I don't want to let babies take over the blog! lol
The big questions everyone is asking at the moment " What are you doing for New Years Eve". God forbid anyone should not have a party to attend or a hot date! This is usually me, I fall asleep before the clock strikes 12 and I miss out on all the fun. To be honest, Ive done the New Years Eve night out for years and I know I'm not missing much. It's always a bit of a let down, truth be told. This year, will be different though...Myself, my hubby and my little girl are heading to Austria for a couple of days. My husband is a singer and normally we don't see each other for New Years as it is his busiest night in the year. This year, he is singing with SMILE band from Germany and they are gigging at the 5*Interalpen Hotel in Tyrol, Austria. As part of the package, family get to join the band members for the nights celebrations. I'm very much looking forward to thins and I'm sure I will be able to keep my eyes open past 12 o clock this year.!!
When I am back, I will do a little review of the hotel ....in the meantime, here are a few pictures to keep you going.
Dreamy or what!
On that note.... Au revoir mes amis

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas !
6 sleeps to the big day !
Listening to me, you would think I was a Christmas fanatic, even more so if you seen how I 'christmassed' the office. In reality I'm more of a bah humbug.....shhh, don't tell anyone, I'm pretending to love Christmas!
Just kidding, I don't totally hate Christmas, there are certain elements I love about it, such as the food, the enormous amounts of chocolate that fill the house and the company of family and friends. When the dinner has been eaten and I have a selection box close by, there is nothing I love more then chilling out and watching a classic Christmas movie. I was going to list my top ten but I had too many favourites to choose from, so here are my top 15 Christmas movies:
- It's a wonderful life.
- Elf
- Trading places
- Miracle on 34th street.
- Gremlins.
- Bad Santa
- Polar Express
- National lampoons Christmas Vacation.
- Showgirls
- Home Alone
- Santa Claus the movie.
- Meet me in St. Louis.
- Scrooge
- The nightmare before Christmas
- Arthur Christmas.

#SBBC Day 14, A post you are proudest of
I'm such a cheat! I'm totally flunked on keeping up with the September blog challenge. I've missed at least a week now but here I am desperately trying to catch up. I really do want to finish this spurt of blogging on the high that I started with. So listen to Bryan Adam s and 'Please forgive me'
As I have not been blogging for that long I don't have 1 post yet that I am most proud of. Its work in progress Ladies and Gentlemen.

#SBBC Day 13, A Craft Project
Good morning,
I'm over the worst of the flu. It seriously took me 3 weeks. But I'm here, I'm alive bla bla bla
As I'm not an artsy fartsy kind of person who knocks up little craft projects at the weekend I thought I would find this post really difficult to write. Then I thought, ok, what have I ever created, maybe a college assignment or something. Eureka! My thesis, I 'crafted' that so to speak and it is something I am very proud of. So I started writing a post about my thesis but something was missing.
Nah. I decided... it just wasn't good enough....something else I've created, something really really special. Bang!
What could be more special then the fact that I have 'crafted' one of the most beautiful little people in this world.
So Saian, SBBC Day 13, A craft project, goes to you.

#SBBC Day11, How Did You Get Your Blog Name
Hump day....and I'm struggling to get over it. I have the flu and everything seems like the pits! Im going keep this one short and sweet.
Where did I get my blog name from?
Simples.... Its a play on words. A play on my surname to be exact. My name is Kelly Petit. Petit meaning 'small' in French. This is just a little blog that I started so it seemed apt to name it, my little blog. MON petit BLOG. Clever eh!!

#SBBC Day 10, Beauty Pet Peeves
Day 10 options for #SBBC were Beauty pet peeves and Favorite item of clothing. Luckily, there are not many things that annoy me, beauty wise. Well, not enough to write a blog post about anyway. When I think of it, the only things I can actually think of is when the bristles of my foundation brush come off on my face. It's like little spider legs...euh, not such a nice thought. The other thing is when you open an eye shadow pallet to find that some of the individual shadows are smashed or broken.... Disaster!
Oh one more thing...This is not a beauty problem but is related to a beauty product. It is when I find my 6 year old dusting down the tables with my makeup brushes.
OK OK, Scrap what I said about not having enough things to rite about in the pet peeves area, the longer I spend writing, the more that come to mind.
It does my head in when people wear lipstick outside of their lips, it looks ridiculous!
EXHIBIT A:
I also think it looks terrible when people who have otherwise perfect makeup, go way to far with the highlighter/translucent powder.
EXHIBIT B:
EXHIBIT C:
I'm perfect of course, no bronze lines, no questionable make up looks...yeh right..
What are your beauty pet peeves?

#SBBC Day 9, How to incorporate color into your look
In the words of the Script "If you could see me now", you would probably chuckle at the blog title and what I am wearing today. Black and grey. Where is the colour??!!
What I should have done to add a little colour into my look was to try one of the following:
I'd love some tips, What do you guys do to bring more colour into your wardrobe?

What I should have done to add a little colour into my look was to try one of the following:
- A colourful handbag
- Nice earrings
- A bright watch
- Shoes with a wow factor
- Through hair colour or lipstick
- Nail varnish or design which compliments and makes my outfit more vibrant
- I normally try to grab a colourful scarf as I run out the door.
I'd love some tips, What do you guys do to bring more colour into your wardrobe?

#SBBC Day 8, Letter to someone from your Past
I had thought about writing a letter to my younger self but I'm not sure I will ever be qualified to give advice to anyone, especially myself. When I thought about what I would put in the letter, it didn't seem right to write to myself with words of wisdom and advice. I don't know everything and I probably never will. You live and learn as they say!
Instead I found this great website with letters from the past. http://letter.ie/0029/0032.html#.Ui2dKB1OPmQ
In particular, I found Irish postcards from the 1900. It's a really interesting website, where you can read love letters, civil war letters etc.
Here is one that I thought was sweet . . .

#SBBC Day 7, Fantasy Dinner Party
I'm a little bit cheeky. I've missed #SBBC two weekends in a row and have been catching up on a Monday. I have a valid excuse though, we've been moving house and we had no internet installed. Alas, its up an running now so there will be no excuses next weekend. Just thinking, next weekend will be the 14th of September and there will only be 2 more of them before the end of September and the end of #SBBC.
Back to the topic in hand, Fantasy dinner party. For me, an amazing dinner party would not be down to the food or the décor but the quality of the guests. My friends and family make perfect guests but seen as this is a fantasy dinner party, and I can invite whom ever I like, I would like to have the following people on my guest list.
1. Oprah Winfrey
2. President Obama
3. Beyoncé
4. Nelson Mandela
5. Freud
6. Rosa Parks
7. Bob Marley
8. Martin Luther King
9. Stevie Wonder
10. And little old me!
Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

#SBBC Day 6, Travel Dreams
When I started blogging, I wrote in my first blogging post, that you could read all sorts of posts on my blog from nail varnish to the Masai Mara. I didn't just pluck this place out of thin air, I have a massive fascination/obsession with Africa. Don't ask me where this came from but I've been in love with the place since I was a child. The f
unny thing is I have never been. I dream of going...Africa is what MY dreams are made of. A friend of mine recently returned from Safari in Kenya and I was uber jealous to say the least.
There is a great series on RTE, Sunday evening's at the moment, aptly named 'Africa'. David Attenborough does the voice over and it just makes me fall in love with the place even more. The wildlife and scenery is breath taking.

#SBBC Day 5, A Recipe
Girl Friday has left this one open to interpretation. So, seen as I am not the best cook in the world, here is one that was prepared earlier...

#SBBC Day 4, Favourite Handcream
I will be completely honest with you, I only put hand cream on out of boredom and habit. I don't have a hand cream, that makes me say "oh wow my hands are so soft". I have cream in my drawer at work and I only ever think to put it on when I see someone else in the office put on their hand cream. The one I have in the drawer is the Soap and Glory Hand Food. I'm sure it does the job, it smells like you could eat it straight from the tube....and hopefully..My hands wont look 80 when I'm only 50!
Maybe someone could suggest a good hand cream for me?

#SBBC Day 3, Sentimental Item
I think this note sums up sentimental value really well. When you think of a cherished item or one which has 'sentimental value' , it rarely has any significance to anyone else but you. That is what makes it all the more precious, for me anyway. When I think of a sentimental item, the one that comes to mind is a silver chain I now own. I bought it for my mam for her birthday and when she died I started wearing it. I wore it everyday for weeks. It was like a comfort thing. I havnt continued to wear it everyday but when I do wear it gives me a sense of peace or calmness. I know these are traits that I have attributed to it but it doesn't take away from its sentimental value.
Do you have an item or possession that holds sentimental value for you, or are you a 'thrower outer' ?

#SBBC Day 2, Favourite Jewellery
I'm on a roll!
I can be very girly at times so I love anything with a bit if sparkle or the word diamond in the title. For my birthday, my husband bought me some really pretty jewellery. These are definitely my favourite pieces at the moment. They have just enough sparkle and I can still wear them everyday withough looking too bling.

Good morning September
# SBBC
I needed a kick up the bum as far as my blogging is concerned and I found the perfect boot to do that with. www.girlfridaysbeautyblog.wordpress.com came up with this great idea to help people like me to get their blogging mojo back. *Sings, I',m bringing blogging back to the tune of Justin Timerberlakes, 'I'm bringing sexy back'. Apologies, if you're singing that for the day...not!
The idea behind this is that I will be blogging every day for the month of September. I chose this challenge over other ones as Girl Friday came up with some really lovely blog topics to inspire, for each day.

Hush Little Baby ...
Good
morning,
I’ve pretty
much been absent from my blog for a couple of months now and although I knew that
I would be writing a big post at the end of the summer, I didn’t think it would
be this one. At the start of this month (August), I was preparing to shout from
the rooftops,” I’m having a baby” but unfortunately that all changed over the
last 3 weeks.
Before
I begin this blog post, I will warn you that I although I’m not usually much of
an emotional sharer, on the flip side, I don’t hold back on information when it
comes to important topics like this one. Please note: T.M.I.
Saturday, 27th
of July, the day after my 30th Birthday. I was on Skype
chatting to my in laws. Everything felt normal, nothing out of the ordinary. As
I chatted, I looked down at my growing belly, a reminder of the little life
growing underneath. After the call, I used the bathroom and noticed a tiny spot
of brown on the tissue. I stared at it for ages, wondering, is this
something to worry about. I’m normally a bit of a hypochondriac so I surprised
myself by deciding that as it was so so small, it was too insignificant to
warrant all out panic. I mentioned it to my husband though in passing just in case
it was something that happened again.
Sunday, 28th
July, Sunday brunch with my best friend, to celebrate my Birthday. Such a beautiful
day. We chatted about getting older. About funny things that have happened in
the past and of how exciting it was to be both pregnant at the same time. If
our children could be half the friends we were, wouldn’t it be amazing.
Monday 29th
July, 9 and a half weeks. When I woke up, something didn’t feel right! The best way I can
describe it to you, is that I didn’t feel pregnant anymore. My breasts didn’t feel
tender and my bloated stomach felt deflated. I used the bathroom around lunch
time and noticed the brown spotting had returned, although still not much to
talk about, it had increased in volume. Generally, it was only when I wiped. I called my husband and asked him what he
thought and then phoned the doctor. In the doctor’s office, a pregnancy test
showed positive which gave me some hope. Reading up on miscarriages afterwards,
I now know that pregnancy tests cam remain positive for a couple of weeks after
a miscarriage. The doctor referred me to A & E in the maternity hospital
In the hospital I had 3 external scans done. The first 2 doctors
could not find the sac. I was starting to think I had made the whole thing up
and this was some kind of phantom pregnancy. The 3rd, a registrar
finally found the sac which ruled out an ectopic. I was told it was too early
to see something on the external scan and would have to wait for appointment in
the Early Pregnancy Unit.
Tuesday 30th
July. Although it had not been confirmed officially, I knew this
pregnancy was coming to an end.
Wednesday, 31st
of July. With no call from the EPU, I went ahead a made an appointment
with a private clinic to have the internal scan done. The minutes felt like
hours, so you can just imagine the thought of having to wait another few days
for confirmation of the inevitable.
Thursday 1st
August, 1st , internal scan. Just confirming what I already knew,
the internal showed a sac, the foetal pole, a foetus but no heartbeat. It was
nice for us to see the little one on the screen, tiny little head and body with
2 arms and 2 legs. While the sonographer could not say officially she did say
if my dates were right then her feeling would be that it was a miscarriage.
Friday 2nd
August – Wednesday 7th, in limbo. The brown discharge is
still present but unassuming, if you like.
Wednesday 7th August. My 2nd internal scan.
Although this is my second internal, it was my first at the hospital which I
had originally attended. Again, you could see the sac and foetus but noticeably
it had reduced in size. I gave the doctor my report from the private clinic which
showed the discrepancy in size. For my doctor, it just looked like an early
pregnancy. Even though I knew my dates were spot on, I had to wait another week
to make sure it the pregnancy was not viable before they could medically
intervene.
Thursday 7th –
Wednesday 14th . Went back to work in an attempt to get some normality back in my
life. The brown discharge became red blood over the weekend which strangely I
was happy about. Finally my body was going to let go of the baby it never gave
life to.
Wednesday 14th
August. 3rd Internal. Miscarriage was official. I had my bloods
done to check if I needed a shot of Anti D (for negative blood groups) and I
was give 4 Cytotec tablets to be inserted that night. These soften the cervix
and encourage the contents of the womb to be expelled. I’m sorry if that sounds
cold but for me that was reality of the situation.
That day I had not been feeling 100% anyway and had been feeling some
slight contractions of the cervix. It was like a dull ache. I had no cramps but
I could feel the tightening on the inside. I went home from the hospital. My husband took
me for breakfast. After a while I realised something wasn’t right and the ‘period
like’ pains were getting stronger and more frequent.
By Lunch time, the blood flow had increased significantly and the
pains were coming on like contractions. I didn’t realise for a while that they
were actually contractions. After about 15 mins the pain became very severe and
there was no let up between contractions. It was exactly like labour without
the epidural! The hospital prescribed pain medication but I had not taken any
as I thought it would be better to take them that night when I took the Cytotec.
I didn’t know nature was going to take its course before then. After 3 weeks, I
began to think it was never going to happen.
My husband was such a huge support the entire time and I honestly don’t
think I could love that man more. We lost our little sac of dreams at lunch
time on the 14th of August. I may have lost this pregnancy but I
have not lost hope of having another beautiful child in the future. We are
already blessed to have 1 beautiful child so I know that while I am devastated
at the loss of this pregnancy I am luckier than others. The luxury of wallowing
in self-pity will not be awarded to me, I have too many things to be grateful
for in life.

Liebster Awards
What a delight to be
nominated for the liebster award, by the lovely ladies @
ellebeelooks.blogspot.ie. I have only been blogging for a couple of months so
to have someone recognize my blog and take the time out to read my posts is a
really good feeling.
To echo what the girls
said, The Liebster Awards is an award given to upcoming bloggers with less than
1000 followers. Liebster is a German word meaning kindness, sweetness,
lovliest, etc. It’s a great way to recognize and encourage new bloggers to keep
doing what they are doing. Blogging!!
My answers:
1. What inspired you to begin blogging?
After finishing college,
I had some extra time on my hands. There are blogs that I follow and love so
decided I might try dong my own and see how I get on.
2. What's your sign and do you believe in
horoscopes?
Im a leo. I used to read
horoscopes religiously but after studying Psychology, I am a bit more
skeptical.
3. Where is your all time favorite place in the
world?
I have not been yet but
I already know it’s Africa. Im obsessed. !
4. If you could be extremely good at one thing
what would you pick?
Hmmm….not sure if Id
like to be good at just one thing…apart from guessing the lotto numbers or
something ha ha
5. If you could chose an actor/actress to play
your life
story in a movie who
would you chose and why?
Rachel McAdams, just
because I want to be her in the film The Notebook.
6. Are you a morning person?
Im not too bad but I
have my ‘Do not approach’ moments. Don’t we all?
7. Do you feel you have followed your dreams?
Life is not over yet…Im
still following them. I never had huge ambitions about college or travelling or
family so anything that I have done or that has happened has been a very
welcome surprise in life
8. Have you any weird obsessions?
A little bit weird about
cleaning and funny smells. I have a nose that would put the police dogs out of
business.
9. What's your favorite scent and why?
I love Roberto Cavali,
partly because I have the body lotion aswell, so it makes the scent last longer
throughout the day.
10. You overslept, you have
15 minutes to get ready. Which is your number 1
priority, hair or makeup?
If you seen the head on
me in the morning you would know that I would have to dedicate 7.5 mins to each
before leaving the house.
11. When you were 5 what did
you aspire to be? Have you fulfilled that aspiration?
When
I was 5? Jebus I can barely remember what my thoughts were yesterday. I do
remember that when I was younger I wanted to move to Africa and work with the
animals….Still aspiring! lol

The rules of the
Liebster Award.
If you have been
nominated for The Liebster Award AND YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, write a blog post
about the Liebster award in which you:
1. Thank the person who
nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
2. display the award on
your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget”
or a “gadget”. (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your
own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)
3. answer 11 questions
about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
4. provide 11 random
facts about yourself.
5. nominate 5 – 11 blogs
that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 1000 followers. (Note
that you can always ask the blog owner this since not all blogs display a
widget that lets the readers know this information!)
6. create a new list of
questions for the blogger to answer.
7. list these rules in
your post. (You can copy and paste them from here.)
Once you have written
your post, and published it, you then have to:
8. Inform the
people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster
award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it
(they might not have ever heard of it!)
I would like to add that
you can nominate someone who already has been given this award, as long as they
have less than 1000 followers/subscribers. The idea behind this award is to
recognize new bloggers and help promote them! The benefit is that you get from
doing this is that you get some promotion, too!
