NOTD - Sunday 9th February

It's Sunday and I'm feeling a little restless. I was up early so managed to get what needed to be done around the house finished pretty early. -That never happens! So anyway I'm sitting here not knowing what to do with myself and then, Eureka! I know, I'll paint my nails to pass a bit of time. That was a great idea until I got upstairs and couldn't decide which colour to go for. It's spring so I was thinking go bright for a change but then again the weather is really weird at the moment, 1 minute its sunny the next, the heavens are opening. Queue confusion on what colour to pick.... After about 15 mins I still couldn't decide so this is what happened . . .

The moral of the story is why pick one colour when you can have 5. !

I hope you're all having a lovely chilled out Sunday. Don't feel bad if your not doing anything productive..remember even the Germans take Sunday off :-)

Pregnancy, week 7 to week 12

Following on from my last pregnancy post, weeks 1-6. Here is the next edition of your baby's growth story.

Week 7 Check out that growth spurt, your little one now measure half an inch! Minute to us, but if you consider the fact that your little one was 10,000 times smaller when it started, it's pretty cool. This stage of rapid growth continues right through to week 20. Bang smack in the middle of the first trimester, I'm sure your feeling it all now, (or not!, remember every pregnancy is different and lack of symptoms does not mean anything is wrong).

Week 8 You have a little raspberry on your hands. In terms of size only, of course. Although still teeny tiny, your baby is starting to look more and more human like. That little tail is disappearing and webbed fingers and toes and starting to show. The usual symptoms probably have you feeling down, but don't fret, baby is happy and unaware of the side effects his growth spurts are having on your body.

Week 9 Baby's basic physiology is in place although it still needs some fine tuning. Measuring about an inch, again there is a lot of progress happening within. Your little one is no doubt moving around now although because he is she is still so small, you wont be able to recognise these movements yet.

Week 10 Happy fetal week! Past the most critical development point, your baby's organ are starting to kick into action. His little limbs can now bend and flex. If you could take a peek inside, you might see him resting his hands across his heart. How cute!

Week 11 Ears!.... "All the better  to hear you with my dear", have moved from their position on the  neck to the side of the head. Hello individual fingers and toes! Like a little ballerina, baby is floating effortlessly in the amniotic fluid, which by the way he or she is also capable of swallowing. Hiccup !!

Week 12 Crown to rump, baby is approximately 2 inches long. This week you are probably looking forward to your first antenatal visit. You will finally see for yourself, the beauty that lies within. Make sure you gets lots of pictures to share with family members and friends, they can be used as a great way to share your news.

How did you feel during the first trimester? I had been so sick. I think I chalked up every pregnancy symptom going. Following a miscarriage during the summer, I'll be honest, I welcomed every sleepy afternoon and toilet bowl hugging sessions. For me, they were affirmations that things were progressing in there. What I didn't bank on was having morning sickness right up to about week 19. With my little girl, I think I may have had maybe 3 days of nausea and that was it, so this was a lot different for me. As I mentioned at the beginning, all pregnancies are different and while there are common traits that run through most, you can never expect your pregnancy to be exactly the same as another woman's. You body is unique and deals with growing a little human in it's own way.

Pregnancy, Week 1 - Week 6

Hello bumps!

Congrats to all who have reached the halfway mark in their pregnancy! I have spent the first half of my pregnancy checking websites on a daily basis for updates on how my baby and pregnancy were progressing. I thought it would be a good idea to write a couple of posts accumulating that information into a couple of posts. if, like me you hit the 20 weeks already then.. Only 140 days left to go!!

Week 1: Egg and Sperm have not even been on a date yet! Due to the fact that it's so difficult to pin point exactly when this union occurs, doctors use the first day of your menstrual cycle as a starting point for your 40 week journey. So technically, you've put two weeks on the clock before you have even conceived. Magic!! This might be your last period for a while too.

Week 2: "Why do birds suddenly appear...every time you are near". Lights, camera, action.

Week 3: Drum roll please! They've hit it off and the your now fertilised egg is starting on its journey from the fallopian tube to the uterus. Your body is gearing up to play house with your new lodger. From single cell to boy or girl, there is a miraculous transformation happening inside your body and you are probably oblivious to the whole thing....Apart from the wishful thinking that is :-)

Week 4: "Honey I'm home". Your little blastocyst is making him or herself comfy and at home in the lining of your womb. Here, it will undergo a series of changes, splitting in half. 1 half will become baby and the other half will become the placenta. This week you may start to notice some subtle pregnancy symptoms, bloating, irritable moods and cramping. Pretty similar to what you might experience before your period begins. You might experience some light bleeding around this time also. This is referred to as implantation bleeding (baby is snuggling in tight) and many women mistake it for the beginning of their period.

Week 5: Things are getting exciting and due to an increase in levels of the hormone HCG, you might just get that positive pregnancy test you were waiting for. This week baby resembles a tiny tadpole. Cute eh! The neural tube which will become baby's brain and spinal cord is developing this week. This is where your folic acid comes in. Hopefully you've been taking your supplements over the last few months and you have established a good store of folic acid, helping to reduce chances of baby having spinal defects. Pregnancy symptoms are practically hitting you over the head, they are so obvious this week. You've missed your period and you may be experiencing nausea and breast tenderness. ouch!!

Week 6: Congratulations, you are officially pregnant, although it just takes 1, you will probably pee on several sticks just to make sure! Ba dump, Ba dump, Ba dump...That's the sound of baby's heart beating 80 times per minute. While you may be only getting your head around the idea of being pregnant, the main components that will make up your little ones face are already forming. Pregnancy symptoms continue to increase, frequent urination, heartburn and indigestion and fatigue. It's normal to feel like you've been hit by a bus at this stage!

Check out my other pregnancy posts for weeks 7 - 12 and 13-20

let me know how you have been feeling this pregnancy. Bump pictures are always welcome :-)

Interalpen Hotel, Tyrol

Hey Everyone,

I'm a little bit late catching up on this one but I couldn't let January pass without doing a little review on the Interalpen Hotel in Austria. The place was absolutely amazing and we experienced an unforgettable stay!
The hotel itself is located at an altitude of 1,300 metres on Seefeld’s High Plateau amidst the natural landscapes of Tirol’s Alpine region. The views are breath taking. We were staying in Munich with friends and it took us approximately 2.5 hours to get there in the car. Normally, I would be giving out about a long drive but on this occasion I spent most of the time looking out the window in awe of such beautiful place.

While our stay at the hotel was short (2 days) we made the most of our time and spent the days out walking and taking in the sights.

The Hotel: A large 5* hotel where luxury combines with traditional Alpine hospitality. The hotel boasts an impressive 282 rooms and 32 suites and is arranged over 7 floors. The Interalpen is home to a 5000 sq. metre. spa and wellness centre, including indoor/outdoor pools, massage and sports packages.

I never thought that I would be into a 'cold' holiday. We get enough of that in Ireland but this trip certainly changed the way I look at short breaks. Its strange, but although there was snow as far as the eye could see, the sun was shining and it felt warm! See, I told you...Strange!

For more information on the hotel, plus rates, you can visit the official website:
http://www.interalpen.com/?&_rewrite=spa-hotel-austria&language=en
or head over to Trip Advisor for some other great reviews www.tripadvisor.ie

Hope the January blues have lifted  :-)

So long Christmas!

Well folks, that's it. It's all over for another year. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with family and friends and you're not still trying to digest Christmas dinner!!
We had a quiet Christmas this year. I don't know about you guys but in our house there is always the annual row on Christmas morning that gets the day started nicely.....Not! Nothing like telling someone to go and *bleep* to get you in the festive spirit ha ha. All joking aside, its a time of year when emotions are high, especially if you are missing a loved one. In my experience, the different emotions individuals feel at Christmas can make it a very interesting Christmas indeed. Anyone who was missing someone at their Christmas table this year can probably relate to what I'm saying. If you know nothing of this...then I'm coming to your house next year for dinner!! hee hee

With Christmas behind us, its time to focus on New Years celebrations. What does New Years mean for you? A lot of people look to New Years, as a time to set goals for the year ahead. Others celebrate the fact that they are leaving the previous year behind them. I think I'm always doing a bit of both. I feel like we had a good year this year. Yeah, it had it's moments, but all in all, it wasn't bad. Next year we have a lot to look forward too. The biggest event being that we have a new baby on the way! After 6.5 years, I feel like I'm doing it for the first time. They say you never forget how to ride a bike but I'm not sure the same goes for labor and birth. I find myself asking a lot of questions of friends who have recently had children because I find it hard to remember. I will do a couple of blog posts on pregnancy and birthing but I don't want to let babies take over the blog! lol

The big questions everyone is asking at the moment " What are you doing for New Years Eve". God forbid anyone should not have a party to attend or a hot date! This is usually me, I fall asleep before the clock strikes 12 and I miss out on all the fun. To be honest, Ive done the New Years Eve night out for years and I know I'm not missing much. It's always a bit of a let down, truth be told. This year, will be different though...Myself, my hubby and my little girl are heading to Austria for a couple of days. My husband is a singer and normally we don't see each other for New Years as it is his busiest night in the year. This year, he is singing with SMILE band from Germany and they are gigging at the 5*Interalpen Hotel in Tyrol, Austria. As part of the package, family get to join the band members for the nights celebrations. I'm very much looking forward to thins and I'm sure I will be able to keep my eyes open past 12 o clock this year.!!

When I am back, I will do a little review of the hotel ....in the meantime, here are a few pictures to keep you going.

Dreamy or what!

On that note.... Au revoir mes amis
